One of my favorite uses for stones and gems is for the purpose of feeling grounded, rooted in a solid foundation of comfort and decisiveness. Without getting too metaphysical, to be grounded means to allow the energy inside of your body flow alongside the energy and the environment around you (in a complete circle or circuit. This will allow for optimal health and wellness because a good sense of grounding means you feel good at where you are at that moment in time. Many people use meditation or another type of calming hobby/exercise to practice grounding. Taking your shoes off and walking barefoot in grass or sand or simply sitting down on Mother Earth are both great ways to ground.Take a Tour
Standing Meditation: Standing instead of sitting to meditate, the action of standing can actually help people suffering from lower back pain and promotes a greater sense of internal stability. Stand in a comfortable, straight posture with the feet pointing straight forward, about shoulder width apart. After settling into the position, do a quick scan of the body and mindfully release tension from the body and bring awareness to each part when doing so. Begin with five minutes and lengthen as your practice deepens.Take a Tour
There are certain power foods in most of our reach that can help fight off the feelings of nervousness, anxiety, worry and stress. While there are no magic foods or pills out there, people should know that incorporating specific foods have been scientifically proven to calm nerves and lift mood. A general key when it comes to foods that reduce stress and anxiety is to find foods that are high in zinc, iron, B vitamins, vitamin C, iodine and magnesium (commonly lost from the body during the stress response). The following are my favorite picks for go-to-options when feeling worried, anxious or nervous and stressed. Also remember to de-stress with daily meditation practice and exercise.Take a Tour
In order to Love, we must first Understand.
In order to Understand, we must Appreciate.
In order to Appreciate, we must Perceive.
In order to Perceive, we must Purify our senses.
Our senses are the instruments through which we experience the physical world. Our bodies are the housing for them. Without a body we would have no sensory experience, and therefore no physical experience of life.
According to a recent article in CNN Health, there are some 30 to 50 million Americans taking psychiatric drugs and a growing number of those are for treating depression. The “sad” but statistically sure skyrocketing rates of these medicine taking patients are not all becoming “happy” and well after taking them, however. As researchers are finding out, the majority of those taking anti-deppressants are not beaming with joy. Actually, in a study funded by the National Institute of Mental Health, only one-third of patients achieved remission of depressive symptoms, defined as becoming symptom-free.Take a Tour
When we recognize our identity solely as individuality, we experience life on the surface. Our sense of self is derived from our relationships, our job, our career, our possessions, our home, our wealth, our race, our political leanings, our religion and on and on. In an endless combination of all these things, our identity shifts and changes depending on whatever the situation demands. We have an identity in flux. And we look for what we can hold on to that will allow us to feel stable and safe.
In meditation, we recognize our identity as one thing: I am. Wholeness. This sense of identity is derived from Being, which is stable and non-changing. Being, or pure consciousness, is understood through experience alone. It is realized through transcendence. In transcendence, each of us experiences the same state of Being. There can be only one Wholeness, one Oneness, one Being. Being is therefore an experience of Universality.Take a Tour
Through meditation we discover the nectar within. Pure Being.
When the physiology that is in accordance with Being is printed out, all behaviors flow from that place. All desires flow from it.
And ultimately, all actions flow from it.
When we are in accordance with Being, everything flows from our one true Self.
Through our daily meditation practice, we establish ourselves in Being first, and then take action. In this sequence, action is more powerful, more frictionless and ultimately more fruitful.
Need more energy in the morning and throughout the day? Do you find your coffee habit is growing but your energy is only fading? Live happier and healthier: A study in the Archives of Internal Medicine notes that, “People who tend to think positively may reduce their risk of dying from heart related conditions and stroke by over 55%!”
Better skin? A study from Colorado State University at Fort Collins found that eating an excess of food that spike insulin levels (cake, soda and white bread) as well as refined carbs and fried foods may stimulate hormones responsible for oil overproduction and clogged pores. Cut back on the junk foods for a zit and wrinkle free face.
Get more zinc and possibly more love: oysters are packed with zinc, a mineral that enhances the immune system. One large oyster supplies a day’s worth of zinc, which also repairs and maintains muscle tissue. Many people do not get enough zinc in their diets and may leave themselves at risk for lowered immune system. Oysters are also a classic aphrodisiac for both men and women. Eat organic and fresh oysters a few times a month!Take a Tour
The quality of our actions is rooted in our mental outlook. Calm, clear thinking gives rise to action which is creative, inspirational and evolutionary. On the other hand, stressed or reactionary thinking yields action that is rife with friction, short sightedness and even regret. It may even do harm to ourselves and others. That is why we strive to take care of our mental well being, since our state of mind directly impacts, and is in fact the basis of, our activity.Take a Tour
