Top 10 Nutrition Essentials for the Home

I get a lot of emails from people asking me what are the most healthy and essential foods that they should eat on a daily basis and what are examples of foods I eat at home. Though it may seem near impossible to many to incorporate superfoods in every meal, especially for a busy, (sometimes traveling) and picky household, there are easy staples to base your meals from. I turn to the following 10 nutrition essentials when designing a meal plan for myself and for my family. Not only are they all power foods, they are versatile, delicious and should be found in every healthy kitchen.

Homemade Anti-Wrinkle Cream

“Now that I am in my 30′s I am thinking about wrinkles. AHHH! Wrinkles. Wrinkles. Wrinkles. I don’t have that many, but they emerge from time to time, especially around my eyes. I know I need to nourish my skin more. What to buy? Lately I have no clue, even organic skincare can have ingredients that are sketchy and hard to pronounce (bad sign). Hence, my search began for a homemade anti-wrinkle cream. I started researching and experimenting. The first thing I had to order was beeswax, everything else I could buy at my local health food store. And then, finally….

Matcha Tea: The Incredible Hulk

There are so many different types of teas available on the market these days and just as many studies and reports boasting their antioxidant, immune-boosting qualities. To a non-tea master that devotes hours upon hours studying, steeping and drinking teas, it is pretty hard to know which ones are truly the authentically ones with healing powers. Tea masters joke and point to traditional Lipton and other American tea bags and call them “sweepings from the floor.” I do have to admit, there are so many different types of teas out there, but to make it easy on consumers, I suggest coffee and tea lovers to start drinking matcha green tea as part of their daily regiment because of the amazing energy and healing potential it delivers. This Japanese tea is different because it is grown in the shade to increase the chlorophyll content, hence its emerald and bold green color. The health benefits of matcha tea exceed those of green tea because when you drink matcha you ingest the whole leaf, not just the brewed water. It is so powerful that Zen Buddhist monks drank it to remain alert and calm during long hours of meditation.

Anti-Aging and Anti-Inflammatory: Silica

There is a popular Chinese saying that if one eats a plentiful amount of seaweed and sea vegetables, the hair grows stronger, thicker and blacker (which is always heavily sought after for Asians, as black voluminous and thick hair was a sign of beauty and youth). Though sea vegetables do wonders for the body and hair, there is another mineral Mother nature created that is often overlooked and not talked about as much—silica. Silica is a trace mineral that strengthens the body’s connective tissues – muscles, tendons, hair, ligaments, nails, cartilage, and bone – and is vital for healthy skin and bones.

As the largest eliminatory organ on the human body and helps to detox the toxins away from the body, it is no wonder people obsess over the tone, tightness, color, age and health of the skin. Hemp Seeds: Nutritional Superfood Powerhouse

One of my favorite powerhouse superfoods is hemp seeds, which may sound illegal at first (but is totally safe, legal), and because of its amazing health benefits, has become more and more mainstream in our grocery store products and is incredibly versatile. In a nutshell, hemp seeds contain extreme high levels of the recommended 3:1 ratio of essential omega 6 and omega 3 fatty acids, which reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, stroke, osteoporosis and diabetes. Hemp seeds are also protein-rich (vegetarians, vegans or as a meat substitutes) and an excellent source of rare gamma-linoleic acid, important for growth and development as well as providing protection against degenerative conditions like dementia and arthritis.

Top Anti-Aging Foods for the Outside and In

New research has identified specific nutrients that help people be better protected from harmful environmental factors and stress, hydrate their complexion and skin cells, keep their organs functioning more efficiently and properly, boost energy, lose weight, and look and feel younger. Nutrition plays an extremely important part in limiting the aging process in people (and all living beings, for that matter).

Why not better prepare yourself against the risk of cancer, heart disease, and diabetes by incorporating these Anti-Aging foods as necessary staples in your diet and food plan? As a simple rule, fresh fruits and vegetables are almost always high in flavonoids and carotenoids, 2 powerful plant-based antioxidants, which help aid in removing free radicals from the skin and body that cause people to age prematurely.
