What’s Wrong with Wheat & Why Is It Making Us FAT?

What is so wrong with wheat? It is certainly marketed as the healthier, better for your heart, filled with fiber, and NOT the evil “white” bread alternative. The majority of people do not know this, but wheat, along with rye and barley, contain a family of gluten proteins that create long-term digestive problems for nearly everyone. Yes, it is the gluten in wheat and most grains that is to blame for so many chronic and life altering diseases, such as, arthritis , cancer, depression, dermatitis herpetiformis (intensely itchy, blistering hives), lupus, manic depression, migraine headaches, osteoporosis, and other neurological diseases (multiple sclerosis, epilepsy) and schizophrenia to list a few.

On a more scientific level, another important point people should know is that the wheat being grown and consumed today is vastly different from the wheat 50 years ago, because the wheat of today is genetically modified using extreme techniques. Sadly, their safety for human consumption has never been tested or questioned. If you held up a conventional wheat plant from 50 years ago against a modern, high-yield dwarf wheat plant, you would see that today’s plant is about 2½ feet shorter. It’s stockier, so it can support a much heavier seedbed, and it grows much faster. The great irony here is that the term “genetic modification” refers to the actual insertion or deletion of a gene, and that’s not what’s happened with wheat. Instead, the plant has been hybridized and crossbred to make it resistant to drought and fungi, and to vastly increase yield per acre

Foods that Trigger Rheumatoid Arthritis Flare-Ups

Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) is a chronic disease in which the lining of the joints becomes inflamed to such an extent that pain and inability to function are the result. Because the cells of the immune system play an important role in this chronic inflammatory process, Rheumatoid Arthritis is typically classified as an autoimmune disease.

The disease begins in cycles as symptoms first come and go, but eventually they become constant. Over time, the joints may become deformed and unable to move. In addition to causing a great deal of pain, Rheumatoid Arthritis also causes significant disability and interferes with normal living.

The good news is that dietary changes can help reduce the pain and may prevent much of the disability associated with Rheumatoid Arthritis. Some of your favorite foods, like steak and cookies may be Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) flare-ups. These sometimes debilitating aches and pains can be a reaction from the foods you are consuming. Though ever individual reacts to foods differently, and may be at a different stage of Rheumatoid Arthritis, there are general rules to follow as far as preventing flare-ups and food. Antioxidant-rich fruits and vegetables, high-fiber grains and healthy fats, for example, are an across-the-board healthy suggestion for all people suffering from RA and can help reduce RA aches – in a matter of days! The key is to follow an anti-inflammatory diet (listed below), which helps most people avoid RA flares.

Top Foods that Trigger Acne

Acne is caused by overproduction of sebum–an oily substance–by sebaceous glands that lie under the skin, other irritants and bacteria. Excess amounts of sebum or other irritants accumulate and block hair pores of the skin. Bacteria then infect the cells and tissues that block the pore. Foods or substances that cause irritation or inflammation, increase bacteria or boost production of sebum can trigger acne. While research results are mixed, there are many clinical reports and well-designed studies that support the contention that food can trigger acne. While it does not seem that acne is a food-related problem, oily and sugary foods may exacerbate the symptoms. Foods such as shellfish, iodized salt and milk, which are high in iodine, may also exacerbate acne and should be avoided. In general if you are concerned about acne, foods to be aware of, eat less or avoid include dairy products, processed foods, fatty and fried foods, meat and sugar.
